High blood pressure is a common condition that affects a lot of people of all ages. Monitoring and addressing this specific problem is critical since the condition is closely related to the heart and anything close to the heart can be fatal.

Fortunately there is a specific type of medication today that addresses the problem of blood pressure and they are called beta blockers.

About the Beta Blockers

Beta blockers or beta-adrenergic blocking agents are medications created for the purpose of reducing blood pressure for those who are experiencing high blood pressure. Beta blockers block the hormone epinephrine thus stopping its effects from being experienced by the user. More particularly, beta blockers cause your heart to beat slowly and with lesser force to reduce your blood pressure. Furthermore, beta blockers also open up blood vessels more to improve circulation.

The Uses

Beta blockers can address numerous conditions, particularly high blood pressure, arrhythmia heart failure and attacks, angina, migraine, and to some extent, tremors.

Beta blockers are considered as a non-primary option when it comes to relieving blood pressure since doctors would usually prescribe diuretics. Also, doctors would usually pair this medication with other medicines as well. Some of these paired medications include enzyme inhibitors, diuretics, calcium channel blockers, and more.

The Effects and Side Effects

When taking beta blockers, expect your heart to lessen its activities to lower your blood pressure. With that said, some of its side effects may concern your energy, more specifically beta blockers can cause fatigue, cold feet or hands, weight gain due to inactivity, and other related conditions. Other common side effects, although not as common as the previously mentioned conditions, include shortness of breath, insomnia, and depression.

For people with asthma, using beta blockers is usually not recommended since the medication may trigger attacks. For people with diabetes, beta blockers are also not very recommended as it may block signs of high sugar like fast heartbeat and may cause a hard time in monitoring the diabetic condition.

Other things that beta blockers can affect are cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

The Examples

There are numerous types of beta blockers that you can choose from and one of them is bisoprolol These medications should be taken with extra precaution.

To know more about this, you can consult your doctor at once. And follow every recommendation they tell you.
